Briefly opened a mirror disk on another Mac w/o SoftRAID. Oops?

I had a mirror disk offsite and I wanted to check it out before reconnecting. I plugged the drive into my MacBook and had a brief look -- it was okay. Note that the MacBook doesn't have SoftRAID installed.

When I plugged it back into my desktop (w/SoftRAID Lite) it showed up as another drive (volume) on the desktop with the same name as the original.

SoftRAID shows the drives/volumes have matching IDs.

I rebooted and they still both show up separately.

How can I get them to recognize each other?

What you did was connect the secondary disk to the other computer. Next time, connect the primary and this will be fine.

Essentially the mirror failed over. To fix it:
Delete the ex-secondary volume (you manually should check that it does not have any files not on the primary but if all you did was connect it to "take a look", it should not. Precautions are always good to take!)
"Remove missing secondary disks"
"Add secondary disk"

let it rebuild in the background and you will be fine.

Okay, this worked. Completely rewrote/rebuilt the secondary disk. A day or so for 4TB USB3.

New *NASTY* problem(s). This morning when the system woke up, it complained the mirror had been unmounted. No entirely unusual but the SoftRAID app didn't show it as "HFS+ (journaled)", either, it showed as "Unknown Format". What?

And the system complains the disk(s)/volume can't be formatted and wants to Initialize them. No, no, no!

Connecting individual disks showed up as HFS+ (w/o journaled). Connecting the Secondary disk seemed to have made it a primary disk. It seems to have split the mirror but still nothing mounts. :-(

Tried removing the original Primary disk and converting it from being a Mirror. It's still showing as HFS+ but it won't mount.

?????

Maybe 'Disk Utility' or fsck_hfs can be run on something but I'm not sure what to point it out. (The mirror volume doesn't show up as a 'character' device.)

Also, several reboots were interspersed with other steps.

Just checked for a software update and 5.5.6 is offered. I'm running 5.5.5 with 'weekly' update checking, so I hadn't received notice. Upgrade notes don't address my concerns so I won't update until I hear otherwise.

Always update the driver! There is never a reason not to, and since disk drivers control the way disks interact with OS X, you always want the latest version of SoftRAID running.

Your volume has been damaged. Without a support file, it is difficult to diagnose this.

Probably what is required is Disk Warrior to repair the volume.

Its possible also you split the mirror again, by connecting each disk individually. Cant tell without a support file, again.

Remember that the disks (each portion of the mirror volume) are identical, and connecting just one will not make a difference to whether the volume can be mounted.

Do you have any idea why the volume was unmounted overnight?

Yes, but the real ease notes say the _driver_ hasn't changed, just the app.

No.

How do I generate a support file? The log file doesn't seem to contain any pertinent information here.

Okay I went back and re-read the release notes. I misunderstood. When it said the driver is the same, it means it's the same as the full version, not that it didn't change. Nonetheless, it didn't mention any updates that seemed to fit my problem so I hesitated until I heard otherwise. Thanks.
