I've got a new Imac and trying to set up a raid 1 on a GRaid thunderbolt drive. The Graid has 2-4tb discs installed. But softraid only sees 1- 8tb disc. What can I do to get softraid to see the 2 discs seperately so I can create a raid 1?

This is a problem with some of the G-Tech enclosures. They are shipped as "hardware RAID" 0 or 1, and when they are in this setting, Mac OS cannot see the individual disks. (neither can SoftRAID)

You need to change this setting to make the drives individually available to Mac OS.

Some G-Tech enclosures support what is called JBOD mode, older units do not. There should be a switch, or software to convert your enclosure to JBOD mode (stands for Just a bunch of disks!). G-Tech should be able to help you with this. I know all their Thunderbolt enclosures support this mode. USB depends on the model.

Once you convert the unit to JBOD mode (note: this will cause all data on the disks to be lost, so back up first!!!), you will know you succeeded, as SoftRAID will see both disks.

Then initialize them and create your volumes as desired.
