Hey there,

I am a video editor, and I like to have all of my work super safe! I am a recent softRAID convert since Apple decided to be ridiculous and do away with RAID altogether in El Capitan.

I have a new G-RAID Thunderbolt 16TB (so 2 8TB drives incased together) that I am simply trying to make into a mirrored RAID 1. That is to say, taking a 16TB drive and making it into an 8TB mirrored drive.

Any help at all to this end would be great.

I am usually incredibly savvy with this kind of thing, but have spent over an hour and have come up with nothing to show for it.

Thanks!

I believe you are asking how to make your system non boot into verbose mode. THis is done via the command line, to enable/disable verbose mode. Just copy/paste the appropriate line into terminal

Verbose Mode:
Set verbose Mode ON
sudo nvram boot-args="-v"

Set Verbose mode OFF
sudo nvram boot-args=

No help for this guy? I have a very similar question. Just need the basics of how to setup a RAID 1 and I'm having the same problem. There's no clear, simple explanation for how to do this anywhere in Softraid's help materials or this board. I don't have days to master the arts of hard drives. I simply want to setup a raid system and have it work.

The first question involves the Gtech hardware, if SoftRAID (or OS X) only sees a 16TB LUN, then there is no way to make a mirror from it. Most Thunderbolt Gtech now have the abiity to be changed to JBOD mode, so the OS can see both drives. Then it is easy to create a mirror.

For the last poster, just watch the SoftRAID videos. They are simple, explanatory and short videos that will show you how to create a mirror without technical jargon.
