Hi there,

  I'm new to this RAID thing and I just bought OWC express 4m2. Recently, when I was transferring files from another HDD/ downloading files from the Internet to my SSD, at some point it just froze. The transferring or downloading progress just stopped so I had to force quit the app, but, reopening the app didn't work so I had to restart my mac, however, unfortunately, restart didn't work either, I had to force shut down my computer. Or, I just couldn't stop the progress and the progress window didn't disappear, same problem when emptying the trash bin, so I had to, the same, force shut down. It's so weird because the monitor log hasn't shown any errors yet. I can still open SSD during all this nuisance or even run blackmagic disk and both read/ write speeds are all normal. Hence, to my understanding, I think the culprit was the RAID software itself? It doesn't happen all the time, but if it happens, it's a real pain in the ass 😫 . It feels like after forcing quit apps, something abt SoftRAID is still lurking in the background. Had never encounter this problem before using SoftRAID. And I do think this constant-force-reopen/ shut down behavior would somehow cause some damage to my iMac and SSDs. Any solutions or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

HDD: Buffalo DriveStation DDR 2TB

suspicious files: .ewi(every time if I open this kinda file, the whole computer crashes, incompatible with SoftRAID maybe?)

note. ewi. file is a VST from http://www.soundsonline.com

Downloading Site: BaiduNetdisk/ EW Installation Center

I use OWC express 4m2 with ADATA XPG SX8200Pro M.2 2280 PCIe 3x4 SSD 2TBx4 with RAID 0, certified

iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019, Mojave 10.14.6, 3,6 GHz Intel Core i9, 72GB 2267 MHz DDR4

SoftRAID Lite XT 5.8.4(I believe this one is the latest version)

You are entitled to an upgrade to SoftRAID 6, I believe. That won't resolve this issue, however.

Attach a SoftRAID tech support file (I prefer from version 6, it has some additional information I may need)

I would also like the crash log. When your computer restarts, it should have a "report to Apple", then "details", will give you the crash report. Select all, copy/paste it into text edit. I want to see that report. You may need to make plain text, and make sure it is a .txt file, so you can post it here.

The symptoms appear to be the blades hanging, but you describe it as you can still access the volume after this happens?

Hi there,

Sorry for my late reply. Unfortunately, my serial number comes with my OWC express 4m2, it's just for Lite XT version I think, hence I'm not entitled to the latest version 6. So I reinstalled the Lite XT version and lost all the previous logs... But I believe it makes no difference since "No disks failed the SMART test." is the only thing in the content so far. I'm 100% positive abt that.

And another difficulty is that I didn't get any crash log the last time I had this problem. I can still provide some crash logs but they're like one week ago and I'm really not certain which one is which but I will still provide anyway.

Yes I can still access the volume. And if I remember correctly, at some point it throttled as well or just became really really slow.

The system didn't allow me to attach any files even they are already in txt format. I uploaded to my drive.

Let me know if this is the right one. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks again!

@kevin821224

Can you attach a SoftRAID Tech Support file? I need to look at that.

@kevin821224

THe attached crash log does not make sense as a SoftRAID related crash. Lets wait until you get another crash, or hang. When you restart, you may get a "your system restarted because of a crash..." message. Click report to Apple and "Details". Copy/paste that report into text edit, but that is more likely to be helpful.

thanks
