I recently replaced a 3 year old drive on a 2 disk mirror with a brand new Seagate drive. I realize now that I could have added it as a secondary drive, but what I did do is clone it and then replace the old drive.

The new drive is now showing 20,000 hours of use when it should read around 20 hours. Is there a way to reset the hours and all usage and SMART data on the drive back to correct values without affecting the data on the drive - or at all?

Here is one thing you can try:

Convert the Mirror to Apple format.
Wait 24 hours.
Convert to SoftRAID.
that should reset the counter.

This is something I consider a bug, or lacking feature, and will log it as such.

The hours of use and SMART status are now appearing to be correct.

In the end, once the Mirror was converted to Apple format (which did reset the hours and SMART status) SoftRaid would not convert it back to SoftRAID. Doing so seemed to create an issue within Disk Utility with the volume that Disk Utility could not correct either in normal or recovery mode. I ultimately had to break the mirror in Disk Utility and make a new Mirror in SoftRAID. But at least it's working now.

I'm not sure if there's a bug within my SoftRaid installation that could have caused the conversion error as it also seems to crash every few days with an internal error - frustrating when 40+ hrs into a 48 hour disk certification.

Thanks again for your help.

the SoftRAID quit issue is a bug. It does nto cause any damage. We think we may have a fix for this, in the next release.
