After verifying the disk i got these messages. And this is the new tech file
After restarting my macbook, i got this message
The volume has to be mounted to validate, so that is proper to leave it mounted.
Looks like the valiate completed and the verify disk failed on the "last sector" of the drive, which is more likely a drive characteristic than a problem. E ven if the last sector were unreadable, it will likely never be written to. (you never want your volumes to get past 95% in any case, 90% on large volumes is about the safe limit)
This should not be related to what you did, but it is pointing out that the directory was corrupted, MacOS attempted an auto repair at mount (after restart) and the auto repair failed. That is what actually caused this.
First you still have the failed flag on the disk, so "recover failed disks" in volumes menu. No need to validate again, but that will make your volume appear normal.
Do you perchance have Disk Warrior? that is the best way to repair the volume, without having to backup/restore.
I recovered the failed disk and it looks like normal again. I don't have Disk Warrior. When i try to purchase it, the site page isn't loading. Going to try another way to get it.
Which page is not loading? I went through the process up to entering purchase details, it all seems to be working.
I got to the purchase details. But i don't have a credit card. I'm going to look for paypal options. Is this the only way to fix the disk? And is it guaranteed to work?
The weird thing is that one of my recent folders on the Raid is empty. It seems to be the only folder thats missing files. Is there an explanation for this?
Just checked again. A lot of folders seem to be empty. Now i'm starting to panic a bit
Some extra information. Before all this happend, i connected the Thunderbay to my girlfriends macbook. That macbook is running Sonoma instead of Monterey. The disk Connected normally, so i didn't think anything of it. I don't know if Sonoma caused the problem, but i'm reading that More people have issues with different OS versions.
Disk Warrior can highly likely fix this, but do not write anything to this volume until you have this resolved.
Otherwise you need to use a data recovery app to get your data off. this is a typical symptom of a damaged volume directory
Disk Drill (cleverfiles.com) R-Studio are the two we tested that were fast and got a high percentage of files with structure. (names/directory)
I'm backing up what i can first. And then i will try disk warrior. The website says they will send a usb drive to my adres. What i think is kinda weird. From America to Holland will take a while. Keep you posted when i get it in the mail.
They have a download option. I do not know why they keep the physical disk option. It made sense when Disk Warrior fixed the startup volume.
I send them an email about an downloadable version without the usb drive.
I was thinking. If i format the faulty drive, wouldn't it be like getting a new drive to rebuild? So format the drive. Puit it in the Thunderbay and rebuild it with the other 3 drives. Just a thought
Ok i downloaded Diskwarrior. Do i need to press "Rebuild"?
