@softraid-support An open SMTP server on the internet? Recipe for spam. As I said, there's no authentication. Honestly, if you're interested in testing, Postfix is very easy to set up, especially on macOS where it comes installed already.
The only configuration options I changed where "myorigin" and "relayhost", everything else was from defaults.
I talked to out developers, and we do not hae the available resources to add postifx to email notification, sorry.

Let me know about gmail...
I've tried an app password for gmail, which works for me in conjunction with Postfix on my local network to send email through Google. All I get is the "Status: connecting to server" forever... just never times out or anything. So, I know app-specific passwords do work for me.
I tried "Gmail" and "Google apps for business" as I do have a Workspace account (though the most basic one).
Not sure what else to try.
In smtp settings are you using 587, as google wants? or a different port based on your postfix setup?
For some reason the 587 did not show up to me.
All users are having success with gmail, and app specific password.
Enable email smtp logging (in our email setup) and do a test email, then send me a support file.
we can take this off line if you want.

The weirdest thing just happened. I went into the settings and saw "Log SMTP" was checked, so I hit "Send Test Email" ... and it worked. I didn't change any settings. It works, so I'm happy.
Thanks.
Had to get an app specific pwd from google but setup gmail to iCloud last night and all worked well.
