Hey all, I am using a 5-bay enclosure as a DAS and mirroring it to a NAS. I would like to build a RAID 5 volume on the DAS with three 14TB disks, but I would like to add two additional 14 TB disks when money allows. Is this possible, similar to what I can do with the Synology NAS in adding drives? Or am I locked into what volume I can build now?
We do not support expanding RAID 5 volumes by adding disks, sorry. You will need to delete the volume, create a new one and restore from backups.
Is this on the roadmap? I'm on a Mac and came to SoftRAID as an option to manage data locally. Is this a limitation of being software-based?
@softraid-support second follow up, could I expand the storage capacity by replacing the existing drives in a raid 5 with larger drives?
If I started with what I have with 3x14tb and 2x10tb, could I swap out the 10tb drives with 14tb drives? I don’t have the drives on hand to just have a giant back up, so it is a bit of a shell game.
