Hello:
I have SoftRAID 8.3 installed on my MacMini operating under MacOS 14.6.1. I have a new certified disk that I want to use to replace a disk that has become old (25,000 hours). I have removed the old disk and inserted the new disk. Drives are located in a Thunderbay 4.
Unfortunately, I am unable to add the disk to the existing array. I have tried the following:
- Initialize in SoftRaid. I get no feedback from SoftRaid that the disk has initialized.
- Verified in SoftRaid. I get no feedback from the SoftRaid that the disk initialized.
- MacOS Disk Utility. I have tried the following: 1) Run First Aide, 2) Erased, 3) Unmounted and reinstalled the drive. These operations complete. Then I try Initialize and Verify again in SoftRaid. But still the same results.
Can you help me get this drive added into an existing array?
Don
I should add that the disk does work. I can read and write the disk from MacOS. I just cannot get the disk initialized in SoftRaid so I can add the disk to the array.

I updated MacOS from 14.6.1 to 14.7. This resolved the issue array is now rebuilding

I don't understand as well. Just prior to removing the disk, I updated SoftRAID from 8.1 to 8.3. With MacOS 14.6.1 I could not even blink the disk. Then I updated MacOS 14.7 and I was able to rebuild the array. Not certain if it was MacOS 14.7 or just the reboot that got things working again.
