Which concern? I cannot follow the context here.
@softraid-support I was prompted to renew my SoftRAID licence and taken to the OWC page, with the first thing I see is a typo.... one for your marketing team to solve.
OWC Flex8
Thank you, that was a bad typo. It will be fixed shortly. thank you!
Is there a way to downgrade from 8 Premium to 7? I'm using Monterey on a Mac Pro 2013 which doesn't support the newer macOS.
Do you have a 7 license? What MacOS version are you running?
@softraid-support I upgraded my 7 license to 8 which I am current running on Monterey (12.7.5).
The core question is this; the computer doesn't support a newer version of macOS and I want to be able to manage my volumes (e.g. add new volumes). My understanding is that the version 8 standard license does not allow the creation of new volumes but version 7 will. Is that correct?
@softraid-support Great! I have a 7 license and am running macOS 12.7.5. How do I downgrade from 8 to 7?
@desertbound
If you just purchased a Standard 8 license, rthen your 7 license is valid. Just "uninstall SoftRAID" utilities menu, restart and run the last version of 7.x you had and install. Should be easy.
Hello, I was hoping to get advice on my future license renewal. I currently have SoftRaid lite. My license is
I am subscribed support+upgrade plan which expires November 30, 2024. I have two seats on my license. One computer is an 2020 iMac that is running MacOS Sequoia 15.0, and the second computer is an old 2014 Mac Mini that is running MacOS Monterey 12.7.6, which is the latest OS that runs on it.
In the license management page , I see there is an option to upgrade to SoftRaid 8 Premium. If I add this to my cart, it shows a recurring total of $119.98 starting November 29, 2024.
1. Is there a way to only upgrade only the license for my 2020 iMac $79.99, and have the 2014 Mac Mini not upgrade? I didn't see a way on the shopping cart to do so.
2. Could the 2014 Mac Mini use the Softraid lite 7 license in perpetuity, or when I upgrade to SoftRaid 8 premium, does that license become deactivated? Since the 2014 Mac Mini isn't capable of running newer versions of MacOS, I wouldn't necessarily need to install the latest version of SoftRaid on that computer. I would still would like to use the SoftRaid/Smart Monitoring that is part of Softraid 7 Lite which is missing from SoftRaid 8 Standard.
Thanks so much
I believe when you "upgrade", your 7.x license is expired. I can manually remove a seat if you want.
Yes you could use this lite seat in perpetuity, as long as you do not upgrade MacOS.
One option is purchase a new 8 Premium, for $149, and leave your Lite alone, it will keep going. Its more expensive up front, but then you do not need to pay for the second seat.

My license was originally a SoftRaid 7 Lite license (starts with SR7LT) and I added the support+upgrade 1 year subscription, and thus I was able to install and activate SoftRaid 8. If I don't upgrade/renew the license and the support+upgrade plan lapses in November, does the license allow me to run SoftRaid 7 lite, or could I still run SoftRaid 8 Premium? When the support+upgrade plan expires, is the user entitled to run the latest version of Softraid released before the date of expiration? I think that is how it was with the older support+upgrade plan, but with the new Softraid 8 licensing, I think things are different?
Thanks
If you have a support plan, its free for all upgrades. Users always are able to get the latest version of 8, but it is "Standard", not Premium, once the support expires.
Its different since we now just moved to subscriptions. Also, note a new enclsoure (with SoftRAID) comes with a 3 year support plan for Premium.
Note: If you already upgraded to 8, with Premium, and can use your 7 Lite license currently, then yes you will be able to keep using it.
As a longterm user I am saying goodbye. After 2 years in a row I have renewed my SoftRAID 8 license and spent $179. Converting to SoftRAID Standard license if you not pay is unacceptable. Overall OWC development and support has been slow. A lot of features are still not implemented and postponed. I have been using SoftRAID since version 4 and went through all ups and downs. You made it clear that loyal customer are not import to you.
