I have an eight bay enclosure that I want to use on my Mac Pro connected via dual eSATA cables. Because I don't have the money to fill the enclosure with drives , I want to start with four, 4TB drives in the enclosure to be used in a RAID 5 configuration.

My question is can I add additional 4TB drives to the enclosure in the future to increase the RAID volume capacity or do I need to fully populate the enclosure when I create the RAID volume? If it is possible to add drives how hard is it to merge additional drives?

Thanks for the help.

SoftRAID does not enable adding disks to a RAID volume to increase capacity. Sorry.
