1) Can I use different brands of disks to create a Raid 1 volume?
2) Can I use more than 2 disks to create a Raid 1 Volume?

I am a newbie to SoftRaid and have various sizes/brands (12 disks in all) in 3 Probox enclosures formatted with Apple Raid as Raid 1 with one set self-ejecting at least once a day. I think one of the disks is failing but Apple Raid does not tell me which disk is the failing one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use any size and brands and speed of disks to create SoftRAID volumes. SoftRAID is completely flexible. They can also be on different buses.

SoftRAID supports up to 16 disks in a Mirror volume (RAID 1). This enables additional redundancy and for off site backups/archives.

SoftRAID will give you much better diagnostic information also.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I am currently experimenting with Softraid and a 2 bay enclosure with hardware raid. Does each Raid set have to have disks of similar size in it? I tried to create a set with 4 1 tb disks and the maximum size I got was 1 TB, so I created 2 sets which gave me a maximum size of 1 TB in each set.
Did I do this correctly?
