Disk Eject Error

If the 2019 is anything like the 2010 Mac Pro, power to the PCIe bus is cut when the system sleeps, which will eject any "external" disks.

@johnd I don't doubt this at all but I ended up moving the same blades to an external 4m2 drive via thunderbolt 3 and haven't had any issues. Would I expect to?

I do not know what causes all the sleep issues, but sleep is 100% controlled by OS X. SoftRAID's driver is a filter driver, it essentially tells OS X where to put data and lets OS X do it. Sleep is controlled by OS X settings. SoftRAID does not control this.

Try a clean install on the Mac Pro and see if that has the same issue.

@softraid-support I already reinstalled the OS and the issue remains. I do not have the sleep issue using the 4m2 enclosure(so far) but do with the Amfeltec pci-e card. If what @johnd says about the pci-e power being cut during sleep, would that apply to the TB3 as well?

What RAID level are you using on the Amfeltec card?

Then use "Convert" and convert to Apple format. Then you know it is not SoftRAID problem and can debug with Apple or on the Apple discussion forums. When you fix it, then convert back to SoftRAID.

@softraid-support I’m confident it’s not SoftRaid at this point since it seems to work in the 4m2 enclosure. But I am curious if there is a way around the “cutting power to the pcie slot during sleep” issue. Do you know if the tb3 interface power is cut during sleep?

Thunderbolt 3 does cut power during deep sleep unless you select this in energy preferences to prevent disks from sleep. (I believe then the bus keeps power, but am not certain.)

@softraid-support ok well then this is odd because in the energy settings it was checked to "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" but the 4m2 drive never had issues with disconnecting. Unless the fact it supplies its own power plays a part. I went ahead and unchecked the option and will reinstall the pcie card and blades and respond back here with the result.

So I reinstalled the Amfeltec card with the WD Black blades and disabled the option for macOS to turn off the hard drives during sleep. It worked for a day and a half and I was jut beginning to become optimistic that it would work but alas, I was disappointed. It's back to square one.

From the message, this is a volume in Apple format? (else I would expect a SoftRAID dialog box)

Maybe try replacing it. I have supported lots of users of this card and have no one else reporting this issue.

No it's a SoftRAID volume. I just noticed the 5.8.4 upgrade so I'll install that and see if it makes any difference. I know it's not likely to but I'm running out of options at this point.

This is a hardware issue, not a driver issue, so updating SoftRAID is not going to fix it. You can try resetting PRAM on that machine, perhaps that may help.
