Two Thunderbay's. Updated to 5.8.2. Disks in either bay will not mount. Tried reinstalling, rebooting, power off/on, but nothing works. The app is grayed out such that I can not select reinstall the driver (hence the deletion of the entire app and kext file). I can't validate the disks. The app indicates no errors but I can not mount or enable safeguard. Any ideas?

I have a case where the System Preferences instructions included above do not work to get my Softraid volumes mounted, even though the Indicated message appeared and the lock was opened and the "Allow" button was pressed. lock was closed and reboot initiated. Missing Volumes still not showing up after 3-4 additional tries. BTW the indicated message has never reappeared. I will power down overnight and begin this chore again after breakfast say, 9AM CST

Check first that the driver is actually loading, so we know what the actual issue is.

Paste this command into terminal and see what the output is:

kextstat -b com.softraid.driver.SoftRAID

I get this:

Clives-Mac-Pro:~ nick$ kexstat -b com.softraid.driver.softRAID
-bash: kexstat: command not found
Clives-Mac-Pro:~ nick$

My bad on first response, typo! (I hate it when that happens)

Try #2

Clives-Mac-Pro:~ nick$ kextstat -b com.softraid.driver.SoftRAID
Index Refs Address Size Wired Name (Version) UUID
Clives-Mac-Pro:~ nick$

looks to me like a title bar with no entries.....

Seems you resolved this, the output means the driver was not present. Allowing the Identified Developer is the fix.

You have a SoftRAID support ticket (case number), correct? Respond to that and email a current SoftRAID tech support file and lets deal with it directly.

Forums are too slow when you cannot mount a volume. That is an urgent situation.

I have no case number from SoftRAID as I went right to the support forum looking for others who may have similar problems from the recent 5.8.2 release.

How do I get a case number?

The 3 affected volumes, FIRST is a backup array of 4 rotating disks RAID 5 in a Thunderbay chassis of my Promise hardware RAID 6 photo archive, SECOND is my super fast work drive comprised of 2 thunder bay mini chassis containing 8 SSD as a single drive using 2 thunderbolt cables, and the THIRD is an Envoy SSD I use to move files back and forth quickly between laptop and MacPro. Basic system operation of MacPro is not affected.

It is getting to dinner time in Houston, TX so we will need to continue the problem analysis tomorrow when my mind is fully rested and at its best. e-mail addy should be in account info, but if now, I will make sure it is after I send this note to you. Where are you located so I can judge when you may be online.

THANK YOU

Just open a new support incident with an email to Support at softraid com

We need to respond, so you can attach a SoftRAID tech support file. Then we can take a look.

I am in PST time zone, and often available at late hours.

@GonzoBernelli,

After upgrading SoftRAID Lite to 5.8.2, none of my SoftRAID volumes mount. I am running macOS Mojave 10.14.6 (18G103) on a Mac mini (2018). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. I successfully converted a couple of non-RAID SoftRAID volumes from SoftRAID to standard Apple volumes and they seem like they are working. I tried to convert a stripped SoftRAID volume to Apple RAID ( I thought Apple RAID was no more... ? Hmm.), and SoftRAID said it worked, but the volume still shows up as a SoftRAID volume, and does not mount. I tried to split a SoftRAID RAID1 volume, but according to the log, "The split mirror command ... failed with an error (error number = 10)." Trying to uninstall at that point caused SoftRAID to hang.

My next step is to see if I can roll back to SoftRAID Lite 5.8.1 which had seemed to be generally working for some time.

I am replying because my troubles seem similar to yours, and because I too came to the forum to see if others were having trouble too. The answer is yes. Some folks can not mount SoftRAID Volumes using SoftRAID 5.8.2.

The mounting problem is the SoftRAID driver is prevented from loading by OS X security. You need to approve OWC as an "Identified Developer".

We created a PDF with instructions to help you resolve this problem:

A update regarding my last message about Volumes failing to mount with SoftRAID Lite 5.8.2. I uninstalled SoftRAID Lite 5.8.2, and then reinstalled it. No difference: no SoftRAID volumes will mount. I uninstalled SoftRAID Lite 5.8.2, and I installed SoftRAID Lite 5.8.1. Now everything is working fine again. All SoftRAID and Apple volumes are mounting normally. Again: MacOS 10.14.6 on Mac Mini (2018).
