Hi All,

I'm an audio/video engineer and have a SoftRAID (v5.1) 1+0 volume comprised of twelve 6TB disks spread across three OWC Thunderbay 4 enclosures. I want to add a fourth enclosure to expand the size of the volume to sixteen 6TB disks. Can this be accomplished via the 'Resize Volume' command in the Volume menu?

Thanks in advance.
Tom

Sorry no. We do not have this feature to expand the capacity of RAID volumes by adding disks.

We are considering this, it is a complex feature when we do not own the hardware to ensure everything goes smoothly. 100% of the data has to be moved around the array.

So just recreate the volume.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I guess my question then is - how do I create a new volume incorporating the existing 3 enclosures/12 disks plus the new enclosure with its four additional disks while preserving the data in the current 1+0 volume? I don't have an additional 30TB of storage to which to transfer that data while creating the new volume. Any way around that?

Thanks again,
Tom

No.

You can create a new RAID 10 volume, and keep it separate.

You do need a backup strategy, though. Never rely on any one technique to back up your data.

Thanks - as I suspected. LTO here I come!
