I have a 2009 Mac Pro and am considering replacing it with an iMac pro.
I am a video editor running Premiere Pro CC and After Effects and so need a fast volume for render files and a large fast volume for media.
I am considering an OWC Thunderbay 4 for media.
From the old Mac I will have three 512Gb Samsung 850 pro/evo SSD's
Can I put each one in a USB 3 docking station and connect each to a USB 3 in the iMac and use SoftRaid to create a RAID 0?
If it is possible, what speed should I expect?
Or, if this is bonkers.......what direction should I take?
Regards
Martin
I do not approve this idea! - Docks are notoriously unreliable for long term use. Especially with SSD's.
What about purchasing either a Thunderbay or a Mercury Elite Quad Pro from OWC, or equivalent enclosure?
I prefer Thunderbolt to USB, USB has limited performance, even USB 3.1 gen2, compared to Thunderbolt, so TB is worth the the extra money.
