I have 2 new RAID 5 volumes: External and Memories. I validated External successfully. I tried to initiate validation for Memories and nothing happens. I quit SoftRAID and tried again - nothing. I rebooted and tried to validate Memories - nothing.

It's a Time Machine volume, so I stopped Time Machine and tried to initiate validation - nothing. I'm running Mohave and on the off chance it might be a security issue, I gave SoftRAID 5.8.1.app full disk access. Still nothing.

I initiated validation on a non-Time Machine (if that even matters) volume and that started fine.

Is the volume mounted read/write?

Do you get a thermometer in the volumes tile?

Yes it's read/write and no, there's no thermometer.

However, I did successfully start the validation this morning. Here's how:

I'm running a 2 disk USB-based RAID 1 and last week upgraded to SoftRAID and added a Thunderbay with 2 RAID 5 volumes, External and Memories. I shutdown my system, powered off my USB drives and booted. When I initiated validation on Memories, it started and is still running.

So it looks like an issue in SoftRAID related to handling multiple physical arrays.

SoftRAID just queues rebuilds. It can handle dozens of volumes. Something else was going on. glad it is working!
