Hi
Using MacOS 15.1.1
SoftRaid 8.3
Fresh install of SoftRaid (used CLI to remove all the components, reboot, and reinstall the latest version again)
I can't delete a Volume (The volume is accessible and I can Erase/Access it without any issues), SoftRaid asks me for a password and as soon I insert the correct password, it displays SoftRAID Error [SoftRAID Error: An internal part of the SoftRAID application has stopped functioning properly. Please quit SoftRAID and relaunch it.]
This is the corresponding SoftRaid Log for it:
2024.11.29 - 10:17:45 - SoftRAID Application: Deleting the volume "T4-CCC" (disk20). 2024.11.29 - 10:17:45 - SoftRAID Application: Tool terminating - status = 0, reason = NSTaskTerminationReasonExit
Another issue is the CLI SoftRaidTool times out even on display information on any SoftRaid volume:
$ sudo softraidtool disk disk18 info Password: SoftRAIDTool status: waiting for disk disk18 to respond (1 seconds remaining) SoftRAIDTool error: disk disk18 did not respond
Note: disk18 is accessible and verified (there are no errors in SoftRaid for it and can be accessed in Finder as usual)
How can I fix these issues?
Thanks
Note: any time there is an error in the application, quit/relaunch rather than trying again.
Was this a Time Machine volume?
Save a SoftRAID tech support file and post it here. Let me look.

Thank you for your feedback. No, the volume is empty. Also, it's not a time machine volume (I have erased it multiple times). I also tried using another volume. I basically can't delete a SoftRaid volume.
To reproduce the issue:
- Right-click on the volume I would like to delete (In either mounted or unmounted state)
- SoftRaid will ask if I want to delete the volume;
- Clicking on the delete button prompts me to enter my user password to allow deleting;
- As soon I enter the password, I get the following error from SoftRAID:
"SoftRAID Error
An internal part of the SoftRAID application has stopped functioning properly. Please quit SoftRAID and relaunch it."
There are no other options besides quitting SoftRAID. Relaunching SoftRAID and trying again would always lead to the same outcome.
I can't attach/ upload the tech support file; it tells me the file type is unsupported (SoftRaid .sr_supt file). Can I email the file to you?
I just uploaded a support file successfully. (and deleted the post) Are you using the paperclip option?
DId you try unmounting your volume first?

Did you try unmounting your volume first?
Thank you for your reply
Yes, I have attempted to delete the volume many times and have had the targeted volume unmounted first; the outcome is the same. Remember that both volumes are empty (I have erased them successfully via SoftRaid before).
I cannot attach the requested support file using the Attach File (paper clip icon) or drag-and-drop. The forum says it is an unsupported file format. However, the support file is generated using the latest version of SoftRaid, and it has not been altered (content or extension).
I have uploaded the support file to my Dropbox and will provide you with the link. Could you please remove the link and support file so it is not publicly available?
Did you try unmounting all three volumes on those disks? One is named Time Machine.
Partition maps in MacOS are write protected when there is a mounted volume. We strictly adhere to this rule. (although Disk Utility no longer does)
I'm having very similar problems. I can do almost nothing in SoftRAID without it crashing. I wanted to add a APFS volume to my Raid5, so it can host Time Machine backups. Can't do that. Tech support report attached.
Manually unmount your volumes first, then try creating your new volume. Let me know if that works.
@softraid-support I tried that. SR crashes when I try to unmount. I can only unmount via the finder. And SR still crashes when trying to to add a volume.
something is holding onto your volumes
In Time Machine, uncheck auto backup. See if you can easily mount/unmount your volume now
Is it true that when you unmount in Finder, there is a dialog box about force unmounting the volume?
Go to System Settings. Spotlight, Privacy. Exempt your RAID volume, this could easily be a spotlight index issue. You can disable the exemption later.
