After years of on and off issues with Softraid I thought SoftRaid finally sorted out the issues with Ventura, unfortunately not the case they are back :-(

This only happens to the two OWC Thunderbays devices, the Promis Pegasus and two Qnaps connected via USB C are fine.

MacStudio Ventura 13.1 SoftRaid 7.0.1

Put Harddisks to Sleep was disabled.

This happened around 45 minutes after starting MacStudi in the morning while working on the machine.

After 5 minutes disks spun back up and both Raids re-appeared without me doing anything while writing this post

please advise

@steve223

this is not a SoftRAID issue, it is a Thunderbolt issue, unfortunately. Did you change any hardware? Move any cabling? Any idea what started triggering this?

On thunderbolt, any interruption to the signal at all, or if the chips get hot, or crash momentarily, causes all devices to power off, until the signal returns. the QNAP are USB, correct? they would not be susceptible (as much) to this issue. USB does not have the instant power off that TB has. SoftRAID loudly complains about this, as it should.

I don't know about the Pegasus, I know it has a small battery backup, but I think that is only for the controller card. Is it on the same daisy chain as the Thunderbay or a separate bus connection?

@softraid-support nop no changes whatsoever, if it's a Thunderbolt issue why doe it not happen to my Promise Pegasus or the 2 x Thunderbolt 4 NVME's connected ? It's only with the OWC enclosures

@steve223 It may be happening but MacOS ignores such events, in many cases. Our belief is users want all events notified, regardless of cause.
What is the enclosure with 4 NVMe drives? I assume it is also Thunderbolt?

@softraid-support MacOs does not ignore disk being ejected, If I drive is disconnected for 5 minutes, that's not an event the OS can ignore. Yes the Pegasus and two 8 TB NVMEs are also all Thunderbolt 4

@steve223 But if they eject momentarily,MacOS may ignore it. We know it ignores most IO errors, from our testing.
