Have you all come across I/O issues with multiple drives? Never had this issue with v6 and I ran another ThunderBay for 7 years constantly without a single drive failure. The first and third drives have shown errors on different occasions. There's no way these drives should be failing this quickly.

There must be a cause to this. Attach a SoftRAID tech support file, we can look.

@mkfortytwo

Yes you have a failing disk, it is predicted to fail, based on our experience. If you bought these included with your enclosure, we offer a free "new" drive replacement, not a refurb.

I only see one failing disk, which is clearly marked for you in SoftRAID.

@softraid-support Thank you. Yeah, the third disk hasn't shown up since the first time, so that may have just been a weird blip. The drives were included with the enclosure. What are my next steps?

@mkfortytwo

go to macsales.com/support and request a return. the reallocated sectors are all you need to indicate to demonstrate a failing drive.

Sorry to open this back up... Now it's showing that disk3 is okay and now disk5 has failed. Attached are new screenshots yesterday and this morning. I've attached a new report as well. I'm backing up all of my data right now. What could be causing this? Thanks again for your help!

Also adding this error message from the log:

Nov 12 11:56:40 - SoftRAID Driver: A disk (disk5, SoftRAID ID: 093C3A73E1726F00) for the SoftRAID volume "MK12TB" (disk7) encountered multiple read or write errors. This disk has been marked "failed" and will no longer be used for when reading volume data.

I too am seeing a predicted-to-fail message on one of the four drives in my OWC Thunderbay 4, right after upgrading to v7 / Ventura. Question for support: is this a new feature added in v7? It's a bit odd to have this coincide with v7 / Ventura upgrade unless it's a new feature.

@rent

Attach a SoftRAID Tech support file and I can confirm or deconfirm.

@mkfortytwo

You cannot use the Disk# to identify disks except on that connection. The SoftRAID ID, or disk serial number will give you the actual disk.

You do have a failing disk, which you must replace. It is apparently starting to cause issues, which may include hangs/kernel panics.

If you bought these through OWC, then the disk is probably under warranty and we will replace it if so.

Thank you for the update. I didn't realize that the disk number didn't matter. I checked both of the serials and they matched. Thanks so much. I have gotten my replacement set up through OWC. Really appreciate the help!
