Experiencing major issues with a variety of video applications that seem related to databases trying to write to and create files on softraid volumes (similar to what is described here: https://forums.softraid.com/windows10-issues/git-clone-does-not-work-on-softraid-volumes/#post-15690). Bad file descriptor errors in the logs all over the place.
Applications that cannot create projects or establish their default media and project folders on softraid volumes:

Diamant Film Restoration Suite (HS-Art)

Nucoda (Digital Vision)

Phoenix (Digital Vision)

Everything works flawless as soon as I relocate the relevant folders in the app's settings to non-softraid drives.

That's a major dealbreaker and issue for me as it renders my enclosure useless at the moment.

It looks like this was resolved by installing a different version of the SoftRAID for Windows driver?

I imagine the next SoftRAID for Windows update will address this.

I'm having effectively this same issue right now with SoftRAID software version 3.0.14.16.  As far as I know I've always had this problem, though I haven't tracked all the software I've had issues with, and I don't know how to solve it.  It's just inconsistent in terms of which software is affected.  My systems is:

  • Windows 11 Pro
  • Motherboard: MSI MPG Carbon Wifi Motherboard + add-on Thunderbolt 4 PCIe Expansion Card
  • Chip: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900K
  • RAM: 64 GB DDR 5
  • Device: OWC Thunderbay 8 w/ (8) WD 18TB Drives, RAID 5.

Lately, it's if I try to use MakeMKV to create MKV files off of a disc image...  The software will read files from the SoftRAID volume without any issue, but when it attempts to write back new files, I get the following kinds of errors:

  • Error 'OS error - The Request could not be performed because of an I/O device error' occurred while writing data to 'F:/folder name'

It will create a folder, and small files will appear -- but they're often corrupt / incomplete, likely because the software gave up and moved on.

I can write directly to a SoftRAID drive within Windows File Explorer... I can move files around...  Some other software doing similar tasks works fine -- for example CD ripper software from dbPowerAmp... but if software like MakeMKV needs to create new files and write to the drive, it gets hung up with IO issues.  I end up having to use an internal standalone drive as a scratch drive to create the files, the manually move them over to the SoftRAID, where the files verify and playback just fine.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest SoftRAID software, and that hasn't helped.  I've tried adding additional user permissions to the drive, and that hasn't helped.  I'm completely at a loss and would love to figure out how to solve this.  Using a scratch drive as an intermediate step is becoming too cumbersome to continue.

(Not sure if it's related or not, but the SoftRAID software also moves PAINFULLY slow on my system...  Like 10-15 seconds everytime I press a button to get the next step, even if it's pulling down menus.)

What if you try to switch over to SoftRAID 3.0.8.8?
