Hi, I have a Raid with 5x12TB disks running raid 4 and Softraid reported via SMART an unreliable disk sector -"disk needs replacing" [Not a reallocated sector] the disk has run 4200 Hrs.
I bought a new 12TB hdd - this is currently being certified on another old Mac and will be ready to use tomorrow.
Each day [for the last 4 days] that I started the raid 4, this error was reported - except for this morning no error?? The unreliable disk was the parity disk, an is now reporting "no errors" on the disk panel in the Softraid window. Softraid monitor now Blue [was yellow].
So does this mean the disk is now OK ie false alarm or is this a heads-up that the disk will fail soon but is having a good day today?
Unreliable Sectors is one state that is often caused by power outages. the disk had a hard time reading a sector, so marked it as "unreliable". A certify may cause the sector to reallocate the sector (consider the disk needs replacing), or it will figure out the sector was good and passes it. (disk is good)
So this disk is likely good, as it passed a certify. You can rely on it.
