Trying to certify a new 6 TB disk, but it has errored out repeatedly while writing during the first pass. Does this mean the disk is bad? The screen shot below shows several attempts to certify.

Mac OS 10.12.6 with SoftRAID Lite 5.7.5

What you know so far is your storage system is not reliable. Probably the disk, but you should get more information before concluding this.

More information needed. While it does not look good for this disk, you should make sure it is the disk, not something else.
What kind of enclosure? (Thunderbolt? USB?)
Is the disk showing any Predicted Failure alerts in SoftRAID?
If you now do a "verify disk" On this disk, does it pass?

Its best to find out if a disk is faulty before putting into service, though!

Okay, I see where you're going, and thanks for the feedback.

It's a currently in a Voyager Q Drive Dock, using an eSATA port (it also has USB 3.0, and firewire ports). I'll see if I have another eSATA cable, for one thing.

The disk shows no predicted failure in SoftRAID.

Haven't tried to verify, I'll run that next.

Ran a "verify disk," and it passed. So it passed verification but wouldn't pass certification. What does this tell me now?

Didn't have a spare eSATA cable though, to test out cable issues. Changed to USB on the drive dock just to keep moving forward.

Possibly heat related. Docks are not meant for more than casual use, so don't use them full time.
