Make a non-RAID volume to be a mirrored RAID drive

I'm having trouble making a RAID 1 set and need some help. I have a HDD which has my data that I don't want to lose and an  initialized HDD to be the secondary drive. I select the drive in Softraid and choose convert then select the one to be the secondary drive. In the disk column it says it's setting up -- changing status -- (I forget the wording, it disappears too quickly for me) but then I still don't seem to have a mirror because when I click on the primary disk in the Volume Column it only connects to its HDD in the Disk column.

Am I doing something wrong or missing some step?

Attach a SoftRAID tech support file.

I do not see why the convert is failing, but have a suggestion. What if you unmount all your volumes from the desktop first, then go to SoftRAID and convert. Does that work?

Well that does seem to have worked. I got an alert saying it was out-of-sync and would rebuild. So the time frame to complete keeps changing up and down but currently hovering around the 80 +- hrs mark.

So thanks for the suggestion. I haven't had this problem with creating other RAID 1 sets although I was thinking that it may have been because this was the first time the primary and secondary drives were in separate enclosures. I know that shouldn't be the case but ...

Not sure if I spoke too soon. I was having some issues where the server kept resetting so I shut everything down, the server and attached enclosures, moved the secondary drive to the same enclosure as the primary. After startup, now it was showing two Work2 Volumes each stating they were missing the secondary drive. So since it hadn't been running that long I thought it would be no loss to initialise the secondary drive to start over by  doing an "Add" to the primary. It started the rebuild OK but I suspect that was not the correct procedure because the Volume shows as "degraded - missing secondary disk"

Suggestions as to how to correct this, please.

@kenqld-srf

Attach a SoftRAID tech support file, so we can look. Is the volume mounting normally? (read/write), or not mounting at all?

Good morning (our time)

  As you can see from the screenshots, the rebuild completed overnight but still shows a missing secondary drive. I have attached as requested a tech support file.

Sorry, I have discovered I can't do that as I just get filetype not allowed. I tried putting the screenshot .png files in a pdf but that too was not allowed.

@kenqld-srf

We only allow jpg files, or .txt files. (for security reasons)

I do not see any disks that do not have volumes connected, or the match to this volume. Is it connected?

OK, thanks for that. I'll know for next time.

The disks in the mirror is/are mounted but I think it must be looking for the failed mirror drive which really isn't "missing" but you would know how SoftRaid keeps track of drives in a mirror.

As the screenshots show the mirror build was successful but it is still looking for a missing drive. I am assuming that somehow it thinks it's a 3-drive mirror when it's not (or shouldn't be)

@kenqld-srf

We have a command "remove missing secondary disks", which will reset the Mirror to only those disks currently connected. That will fix the message

Thank you, that did the trick and thank you for being so patient with me.
