@stratmoen

the SoftRAID driver did not load.

Did you uninstall? the generic driver should otherwise load.

When you launch the SoftRAID app are you able to install the driver? os is that when you get an error?

It may be worth "reinstall macOS", (not a clean, just a reinstall), startup in recovery mode, go to options, "reinstall MacOS", then the SoftRAID driver will be available. then see if you can update the driver running the application.

Without the driver loading, you cannot do anything that requires the driver to be loaded.

I uninstalled and the generic driver loads. Launching the SoftRAID app results in the error shown in the first post in this thread.

The OS is 12.7.5, where I have already completed a reinstall. The SoftRAID driver is installed and executing. Though I can't get the app to start to permit manipulating the RAID.

@stratmoen

If you double click on the SoftRAID Monitor before launching the app, does it launch?
(/Library/Application Support/SoftRAID folder)

@stratmoen

SoftRAID Monitor is "faceless". Did you mean, after launching Monitor, the App launches?

SoftRAID monitor launches and a circle appears on the bar at the top of the desktop. The monitor indicator is blue.

@stratmoen

And when you launch the SoftRAID app (when the Monitor is running) do you get an error?

In /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools I renamed com.OWC.HelperTool.RepairSRTool. Then when I started SoftRAID it asked me to reenter my serial number given I deleted the preference files followed by asking me to authenticate as admin. At that point the app completed startup displaying the RAIDs, etc.

Notable is when I did a softraidtool uninstall com.OWC.HelperTool.RepairSRTool was not removed.

To be blunt I have no idea what is going on though it is clear removing / renaming the helper allowed the app to start. I asked OWC what the warning and error codes shown in your log file represent, but OWC has yet to respond with an explanation of these codes. Likely these codes point to this problem.

@stratmoen

I will inquire on this. The HelperTool was added "recently" to ensure MacOS could enable the SoftRAIDtool to load properly. Its possible there is a bug in that code. Might be very helpful.

We do not know (yet) what those error codes are. They were not documented when the macOS X version of SoftRAID was written over 20 years ago. No one has had time to dig into the sources to determine what triggers those errors. Its a long term goal to update all these numerical error codes with language errors. But lower priority.

@stratmoen

Is the renamed helper still present?

If so, great. Can you run this command:

ls -als /LIbrary/Application\ Support/SoftRAID

I want to see the ownerships on the helper tool is the idea.

Attached is the output of the command line provided. That said the helper tool in question resides in a different directory. Directory listing of that as well attached.

@stratmoen

You are correct to path, but give us a little time to investigate.

the helper tool should self delete. So you can delete it now, we have the info we needed from it.
