Its the malware component, yes.

And Nord does not write it, it is licensed from somewhere.

that is part of the issue, its likely a problem for Nord to solve something they simply license, unless they can get the Licensee to get involved. We would be happy to cooperate if contacted.

I've got NordVPN installed. The SoftRAID window launches fine. Does that mean I'm fine? I'm trying to understand worst-case scenario here. Is it just that SoftRAID won't launch?

Yes, worst case scenario, is the SoftRAID Application will not launch, it will give an error that the Monitor failed.

Note: its not the VPN that causes this, its the bolt-on malware option. The app store version does not have this problem, the only way the malware can be installed is if downloaded. I don't know if it is a free option or not, but it does not come with the basic VPN.

So, to be clear, I've got SoftRAID 8.5 installed and it is launching. I don't remember where I got NordVPN from. Can I just uninstall NordVPN and reinstall the version from the App Store to be safe? Or since I've got SoftRAID already installed, is the process more complicated?

I would not worry.

NordVPN is your VPN. VPN's are used to hide your IP address from web bots, etc. Many people have them. they are on subscription, so you must be paying for it.

If SoftRAID works, there is nothing to do. there is no point to try to reinstall.

Just do NOT install any "malware" options that NordVPN may have available. Keeping MacOS up to date is the best protection in any event.
