Hi ...
I have installed SoftRaid Lite v5.8.4 in macOS Catalina ...
I have two Raid 1 Volumes and Now I would like to CONVERT my Boot Volume into a Raid 1 Volume
Currently I have the configuration as displayed in the image :
I would like to CONVERT Ext Sandisk 480 TO RAID VOLUME together another disk I will attach to the system.
Can you give me the right steps to do that safely ( I mean ... keeping MacOS already installed in to Ext Sandisk 480 )
ps .... please disregard fotoslim.jpg ... I could not find a way to remove from the post as I have used to confirm that only JPG images are allowed and not PNG ...
Unfortunately, macOS now prevents RAID volumes from being startup volumes. This started with High Sierra, but there were workarounds. By Catalina, there was no way possible. I know for certain Apple RAID cannot be a startup disk for Big Sur, and I believe, but am not certain, Apple RAID can no longer be a startup volume for Catalina either.
It appears Apple does not think the Mac is worthy of having a RAID startup volume. And this policy is not going to change, as far as I can tell.
@softraid-support Hi thanks per return ... but ... just a double check ...
I was wondering create a SOFTRAID RAID VOLUME not a BUILT IN APPLE RAID ... can you confirm that the same apply to SOFTRAID RAID VOLUME ?
In fact ... I was able to startup my Mac mini from a current SOFTRAID RAID VOLUME that has been CLONED from my MAIN STARTUP VOLUME (APFS Volume ) ...
So now I would like the steps to Turn this APFS VOLUME (in fact the instalation created 2 volumes One for Boot and One labeled with Data) into a SOFTRAID RAID 1 VOLUME from INSIDE SOFTRAID Software
Best Regards
I am not sure what you did, but it does seem unlikely. You can attach a support file, I can look. But it is extremely difficult to boot from RAID in Catalina. Apple does not want you to.
SoftRAID driver in fact removes bootability per Apple instructions to us.
@softraid-support Hi Thanks per return ... here is the file ... take a look at MBOOT volume
Good job, this is hard to accomplish. Big Sur literally makes this impossible, so do not consider upgrading until you find an alternative to a RAID startup volume.
