I migrated to a new mac studio M2.  I initially had kernel panic when I plugged in the thunderblade drives.  So, I re-installed SoftRaid version 7.5.  I was able to plug in the Thunderblade drives, all works smoothly.  One day later, I restart the studio.  It loops on reboot, but when I detach the Thunderblade drives it restarts.  I open Softraid to make sure it is running correctly (it seems to be) and plug in the thunderblade drives.  kernel panic again, tried twice.  I uninstall and re-install Softraid 7.5, and then I can plug in the drives ok.  It is now running again, but I don't know why I had these kernel panics.  I suspect they will continue (when I restart, etc.?). so I am including here the top of the (last) panic file.  Let me know if you need more to diagnose / resolve.  (I also submitted crash reports via apple and think I had SoftRaid reports enabled as well ) - [ I cannot attach the file to this message, even though it is a Plain Text message, as requested, with a txt extension.  no explanation given, so any tips welcome, or I can send by email if needed ]

The trick to attaching a Text Edit file is "Make Plain Text in the Format pulldown. Otherwise it is always .rtf regardless of what you name it. (see attached)

Second tip, is it is best to grab the panic through "report to Apple", then "details", and copy/paste that text into text edit. otherwise the panic log is compressed into non readable blobs.

We just started getting reports of this panic. We did not have access to a M2 Studio Ultra before shipment. It appears to be related to the prior M1 kernel panic with RAID 5, but having a different cause. (another dart controller panic)

We are working on a solution. Try waiting to connect it for several minutes before connecting, this may avoid the panic. We are testing a partial solution using the terminal, but it requires disabling security, so we would like to find a better option for users.

A fix may require an update to MacOS.

Hi and thanks for the tips.  It was in Text mode, so I will paste it below (it was the "attach files" that was not accepting the file - saying Filetype not allowed, even though it IS in text - but indeed I did not copy it from the Report to Apple dialog)

As to the error itself, if this additional information is helpful : One Thunderbolt drive is a 32Tb drive, that is striped.  The other is an 8 Tb drive, in RAID 4.  (Neither are in RAID 5).  It is a Studio Ultra with 192gb of memory.

The error seems to disappear if I reinstall Softraid before plugging in the drive.  I will try waiting a few minutes before plugging in the drives if/when I reboot.  I agree with your point that lowering security is not an ideal option.

Hopefully a reasonable workaround can be found until the final stable fix is in place.

Thank you for your efforts on this issue.

@kugulu

Text Edit ALWAYS saves as RTF, unless you use the "Make Plain Text" (format) command. text Edit sneaks in the rtf extension, even if you try to make it .txt, if you do not "make plain text". We do not allow rtf for security reasons and posting long text threads makes the forum unreadable. So I snipped it, as I did not need to see the panic log, past the beginning.

Reinstall SoftRAID should not be able to make a difference. That would be very odd if so, as the driver is not being replaced. Use the support form if you have not opened a case, as we may need to give you non public information on working around this. (not confiential, but commands that are potentially harmful if randomly used by other users.)
