SO, Apple has released their update 10.11.1, will that make it easier for you guys? Does it bring fixes crucial for a more stable driver?

For intel, yes. For M1, not as far as I know. We are plugging away at getting the M1 working.

Getting very close. We may have figured out how to work around the big issue.

Good morning (in Europe). Beta 46 is out, it does not give me an error message anymore, but it is not working with Apple silicon and the latest Big Sur beta. Reinstalling with a standard OS version (non beta) to check that. In the Big Sur beta, there will be an error message that SoftRaid tries to install a kernel extension which has to be signed by the manufacturer. Thus the driver does not load. All drives are shown correctly, but stay unmounted. Manually mounting them fails, but the log does not show any errors.
I will update here as soon as the normal OS is installed and I tried there.

Run kextstat in terminal, and search for SoftRAID. Is the driver there?

Actually no... but I got more now. I went back to the last official MacOS release 11.1. I got Softraid to install everything, even the System Extension.
The driver is not there when the drive is unplugged.
Fun enough, when I plug the external drive into my Mac, the system enters an endless reboot. I can login, as soon as the external drive is mounted, the system will stop and crash. I will attach the panic log.
So, once more the steps.
- clean MacOs 11.1 install
- Immediately install SoftRaid b46 with drive plugged in
- System Extension blocked notification, allow (you have to change the Security protocol before you can do that)
- System reboots, stops during bar, reboots again
- Login screen, logging in, drive is mounting, crash
- System Extension gets disabled, drive is seen, but I can not mount anymore

Do I maybe have to create a backup on my intel Mac, then dissolve the RAID and recreate it on the M1?

This is getting weirder and weirder :) I installed b46 on my intel MBP, connected the Akitio to that. It updated the driver, lalala, done. Disconnected the Raid, connected it to the M1 mini, and voila.... it works. I had one more crash, no idea why.
BUT SoftRaid monitor (in the toolbar) is NOT there. So that is not there....
Anything I should test?

And one more, sorry, things, develop. I have my home directory on the RAID. If I reboot the Mac, and login with the user with the home on that Raid, the mini will go into reboot loop. Only if I unplug the Raid, log in as a user with a local directory, then plug in the Raid, then log out and over to the user with the homedir on the Raid, will it work.
So not sure which part is loading when. I will try to start the SoftRaid app now and see what happens...
OK, SoftRaid app tells me it wants to make changes....
I did allow them with password, and I am still alive.... But the monitor in the menu bar is still not running.

And finally: Still crashing. It will run for quite some time, then suddenly kernel panic. No idea why. I am not doing something specific. It will even crash when I am not at the computer. So something is still wrong....
P.S. Please feel free to concatenate these posts, I could not do that...

I will investigate using a RAID as a home folder and if any issues are present. If so, it could be tricky to resolve as it may be in Big Sur. Will make a comment after testing.
Note that SoftRAID is not in the backtrace, also.

I know. The problem is, that the crash also occurs when I am logged into my admin account, which does not have the home on the Akitio. Right now, I am using that account with the Akitio not plugged in, because it just crashed again. I will put the panic into the next post. I have no idea, I am not doing anything that I can reproduce what would cause the crash. The only thing I am pretty sure of is that the system is more stable when I unplug the Akitio and only plug it in after it has booted. Also, the Softraid Monitor is not running, I do not have the icon in the menubar.
