@softraid-support OK, took the dock out of the equation.
Only devices connected are XDR and ThunderBay. Manual eject. Cable disconnection. Crash after about a minute.
Sorry, these issues are difficult. I am looking forward to the results, especially without the USB devices, since a USB driver is in the backtrace.
Only items are Thunderbay and XDR?
If you uninstall Dock Ejector?
If you "manually" unmount and sleep?
We are making progress!
@softraid-support No, Ejector tool was still installed, but manually ejected since no dock was connected. Should I uninstall?
@softraid-support I've been doing various testing, and it appears to me that it's a wake / sleep issue. If I keep the lid open and disconnect, all works fine. If I close the lid and open back up, that's when I am seeing the KP happening.
If it is a wake sleep issue ,then whether Dock Ejector is installed or not is not relevant, it should panic either way.
Now it is a matter of figuring out why in your case. When I had the XDR display here, I was using on a 2019 Mac Pro, I did not do any testing with any laptops.
You are connecting your XDR though a Thunderbolt dock?
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210437
It is not supported. Maybe that is the issue, you need to direct connect it.
I was assuming it was on the dock. (I am unable to recreate yet, but am stuck trying with an HDMI for now)
When you unplug the dock do you also unplug the Monitor and put it to sleep? or leave it connected when machine is sleeping?
Sequence is probably important here. I may be able to get a TB monitor next to test with, but an XDR is not easy.
@softraid-support Like I said, I took the dock completely out of the loop -- disconnected. One TB cable to the XDR and one to the ThunderBay.
I don't think I use any particular sequence here, but once cables are disconnected I open the lid and rest assured I get a panic within about a minute.
Understandable about XDR availability.
I see macOS 12.2 beta 1 is out. I don't like to use betas on production devices, however I am tempted to see if Apple fixes anything with this point release. I have a TM backup if I have to revert.
I will continue testing various scenarios.
So far, there is not a macOS update that will address this issue, as far as we know. Feel free to try 12.2, as in a future macOS update, Apple may apply a fix, possibly without telling us.
Interim macOS beta versions are generally safe, as they are generally bug fixes. So it is unlikely to add any risk.
Major version beta's should not be used with production data, unless you have excellent backup processes.
I could not reproduce this (as I expected) with HDMI. This is possibly an XDR specific issue.
@softraid-support I also have an LG 5K monitor I can test on to see if it's XDR-related.
@softraid-support Get the same results with the LG directly connected to the MBP.
That is the Thunderbolt version, correct?
what if you connect it via HMDI?
I hope it does not, then we have a good theory. I can get a TB monitor, or at least someone to test on one.
@softraid-support This LG monitor only has TB, no HDMI. I'll grab a monitor with HDMI and see if that makes a difference.
Also, no change when updating to macOS 12.2 beta 1.
