[Sticky] Big Sur on M1 machines and SoftRAID issues

Figure out first whether this is a driver issue, or a volume directory issue. In the volumes tile in SoftRAID, does it have a "disk identifier" like disk7? or does it show -

If -, the driver is not loading. If a disk identifier, then the directory may be damaged, and if you have access to Disk Warrior, use that.

Let me know.

I am guessing the USB SMART drivers are not causing a problem, just not loading. But will do more testing.

Try Disk Warrior on your volumes, in case the directory is damaged. You can also temporarily disable SMART checks and see if that is causing the delays'

SoftRAID 6 can create APFS volumes, don't try to use Disk Utility for that.

What you can do, but is not supported by us yet, is erase an APFS volume as encrypted in Disk Utility. Problem is there is still a kernel panic in APFS when we do this, rare but happens. We are working with Apple to see if this is our bug, or Apples.

Use the terminal to see if the driver is blocked;

sudo kextstat -b com.softraid.driver.SoftRAID

There should be output with the driver. If blank, it is not there.

Try this command in terminal if the driver is not loading:

sudo kmutil clear-staging

followed by:

sudo kextcache -i /

and restart. See if this helps

Confirmed there is a RAID 1+0 problem with HDD's. We will work on this ASAP, but it may be Friday before we can do a new beta version.

Are you using uninstall SoftRAID from Utilities menu?

There is an "Advanced" button in the System Preferences window. When there is a driver unapproved, it toggles to letting you approve it. Try this. (otherwise it has a different function)

I don't have Disk Warrior, but I intend to move the ThunderBlade to APFS  anyways. 

That's why I wanted to know the best way to set up APFS to the ThunderBlade.

Easy, just delete your volume and create a new APFS volume using SoftRAID. It is in a pull down for file system.

Was this a clean install, or did you migrate old data from another system?

Also did you go into Secure Boot and enable third party extensions?

(I dont' have printed instructions yet, need to create some)

That is a strange one, never saw that before. This is all Apple. You are just enabling third party drivers, that should of course work.
