I think this is a Big Sur/Time Machine issue. Starting with Big Sur any new SoftRAID volume for Time Machine, must be APFS.
We are releasing 6.0.2 in a little bit (may already be up), so download that and create a new APFS volume. Then Time machine will work with it.
Did you know the release of 6.0.1 was available? it is an upgrade, so you need to go here to check out your upgrade options.

Well I missed the SoftRAID 6.0.2 update and went straight to 6.0.3. The driver installed without difficulty and I have verified the 6.0.3 driver version in Terminal mode, but I have had no success with APFS. APFS is not offered as an option when setting up an array and if the drives are pre-formatted APFS in Disk Utility SoftRAID will not initialize them. What am I missing?

You are right, it was not in the build. Use the b53 beta to create the APFS volume, then go back to 6.0.3.
Is this APFS also the reason why the GUI in SoftRaid 6.0.3 in MacOS 11.3 Beta (20E5231a) is (still) showing a raid as "unmounted" and "unknown format"?
Will this one day be fixed, or do I have to recreate the RAID 5 volume?
Just installed 6.0.3, works fine. Will upgrade to Beta 8 and let you know...
.....and as expected it works fine. All good with 20E5231a
So where is the beta 53 download available? Unfortunately I didn't keep it around after I got 6.0.1 running.

The APFS volume tile issue is just the application. The changes to support this are being worked on, it will take another month or two.
The reports are much appreciated! Looks like 2 more weeks before release unless Apple changes its pattern.
Okay, I updated to macOS 11.3 beta 8, reinstalled the SoftRAID b53 app but left the 6.0.3 driver in place. I was able to create an APFS formatted array using the b53 app and it mounts in Finder and Time Machine likes it. But neither the b53 or 6.0.3 app can mount the array. Obviously this is still a work in process, but I would hope that for the sake of others who are less persistent and/or less technical this will be spelled out in detail on the SoftRAID site until all of this and encryption is finally worked out.

Good point, I will recommend that this be described better. Getting APFS support completed is top of our priority list.
