[Sticky] Big Sur on M1 machines and SoftRAID issues

Anyone else experiencing constant spin down/spin up every minute or so at idle? I'm on a M1 Mini (11.3.1) w/ SoftRAID 6.0.5, using a Mercury Elite Pro Quad.

I have not seen this reported. How are your sleep settings in System Preferences? If you set it to never, do you still get this behavior?

@softraid-support I unchecked "Put hard disks to sleep when possible". 

 

Also, not sure if relevant, but I'm on an expired trial of SoftRAID 6, which was working fine to just read and write. Then I ejected the external, and now won't remount unless I upgrade.

The driver is not loadnig is the mounting problem.

Did you try the terminal command:

sudo kmutil load -p /Library/Extensions/SoftRAID.kext

 

can I upgrade to 11.5.1 or is it better not to ?

Feel free, 11.5.1 is unlikely to make a difference. However, I would like you to try the 6.1 beta.

uninstall SoftRAID from Utilities menu first, then run the beta, install and "Allow OWC" again. You also need to reenter your license.

This is the same crash another user is getting, neither of you have SoftRAID in the panic backtrace, however. (In your case, SoftRAID was the last loaded driver) There is nothing in the Apple forums yet for this crash.

Can you install the 6.1 SoftRAID beta?

If you did, then do this:

uninstall SoftRAID (Utilities menu)

Run SoftRAID and install

BEFORE you restart, go to System Preferences/Security and "Allow" OWC as an identified developer.

Click restart later, go back to SoftRAID and restart.

If you get this panic again, send the panic log and a new support file. thanks!

that this is not a softraid problem... very many problems with OWC Express 4m2 mini..
